It is no secret that football is the fastest growing sport in India but along with football there is one more sport that is catching the frenzy of urban youth. Football’s miniature version popularly known as Futsal.
Futsal is traditionally played in Brazil and Uruguay but later on became a rage world over. It is also catching up in India big time, with active efforts taken by SAI and Futsal Federation of India. Futsal is played indoors and is five-a-side game. The game mainly focuses on player’s technical ability and improvisation.
Of late there are many futsal centres cropping up all over India. These centres are indeed encouraging the Indian youth towards this exciting sport. Especially from SAI, The SAI director will meet the All India Football Federation secretary Kushal Das on tomorrow to discuss various aspects of this school level event.
“I am going to meet AIFF secretary on tomorrow to discuss all the issues related to the improvement of football in India. I had talked to the AIFF president regarding to the Futsal and he told me to meet Kushal Das. SAI is ready to give all kind of support to the school level tournament. We have heard that the Brazilian striker honed up his skills at school level Futsal tournament which helped him to make a mark in senior level. Indian football is in need to take initiatives like this at junior level and produce some good players,” The SAI director said.
“Mainly played in smaller pitch Futsal can be called as half football and it can be used to enhance the stamina and skills of the players at junior level. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper and the unlimited substitutions are permitted during the match.
Unlike some other forms of indoor football, Futsal is played on a hard surface with smaller ball. It will be a very useful for school kids who want to grow in football,” said Thomson on the sidelines of launching a national level school championship to unearth sporting talent by SportsMentor.
If these plans are put into action along the expected lines, than India should have a futsal revolution in next five years.
