Every time in the transfer windows there is one name that is part of every major deals in the world of football. Jorge Mendes.
Few people know the real Jorge as the most influential man in football keeps a relatively low profile. Being dubbed as the 'Super Agent' there has to be something about the guy. He has the story literally from the movie books, as he started as a footballer and failed miserably. He became an accidental agent as he started representing Portuguese goalie Nuno after a meeting in a bar. And then there has been no turning back for the Lisbon legend.
Of all the big money moves that took place this summer majority of them were Jorge's boys. Angel di Maria, Diego Costa Radamel Falcao and Eliaquim Mangala are few of his illustrious clientele that were the biggest movers and shakers of this transfer window. Footballers like Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and David De Gea are represented by his agency Gestifute. He pretty much has all the best talent on the Iberian plateau as his clients.
Managers like José Mourinho and Carlos Queiros are also Mendes' men. His acumen can be gauged by the fact that he made Manchester United buy Bebe for €7.5m even though the United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hadn't watched him play. It was on insistence of his trusted aide Carlos Quieros, who has been assistant to the Scot for couple of occasions.
It is reported that Mendes pocketed almost €30m for all his dealings this summer. That's quite a fortune to be made in a couple of months. It is a known fact in the transfer market that no big money deal can go forward without the blessings of this mystical Portuguese. According to Cadena Cope,Perez joked: “If I’d brought Radamel Falcao, we might as well make Jorge Mendes president of Real Madrid!” Although a joke but still signifies the importance of Jorge Mendes' in the transfer market.
