Pre-game Australia vs Spain

The World Champions Spain have had a disastrous World Cup campaign as they join the likes of France and Italy among others as a team to exit in the group stage as defending champions. This time Spain will be looking to save face and win at least one match to show that their team is still intact. Australia, meanwhile, had a very positive tournament. Though they lost both their matches they did not bow down easily as they matched their opponent blow for blow and almost shocked Netherlands. They too will look to end their campaign on a high just as much as Spain. Vicente Del Bosque will most likely bench Iker Casillas, who had a disastrous time in front of the goal, with either Pepe Reina or youngster David de Gea while Koke will take over the midfield. For the Socceroos, top scorer Tim Cahill will be missing the game due to a suspension.

Top Players to look out for:

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata will be starting for the Spaniards and will be one to look for having been known for his creativity. Santi Cazorla, another Premier League product will be in action. The likes of Fernando Torres, David Villa, Xavi and Xabi Alonso could well be making their last World Cup appearance owing to their age. While the Australian captain Mile Jedinak will be hoping to inspire his team to a victory.

Teams head-to-head:

The two teams have not played against each other, hence this will be their first meeting.

Probable line-ups:

Spain (4-3-3): De Gea, Juanfran, Ramos, Martinez, Alba, Koke, Xabi Alonso, Silva,
Iniesta, Costa, Pedro.

Australia (4-2-3-1): Ryan, McGowan, Wilkinson, Spiranovic, Davidson, Milligan, Jedinak(c), Tommy Oar, Bozanic, Mathew Leckie, Taggart.

Prediction:

The Spanish team is beaten and bruised they will hope to salvage their worst performance with a victory but the team from down under will not make it easy for them.

Final Score Prediction: Australia 1 – 2 Spain.
