Emanuel Petit - Throwback Thursday
Emanuel Petit, 44 is one of the most prominent figures in the world of French football. Petit who has played for Monaco, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea has had a fairly successful career. He retired due to lots of small injuries and his inability to shrug them off.
He began his career at minor club ES Arques-la-Bataille, before being signed by Arsène Wenger's AS Monaco at the age of 18. Wenger generally played him either on the left ot the center of midfield. He groomed him well as Petit went on to make 220 appearance for the club and also won cup in 1991 and won them the league title in 1996-97 season as he captained the side. Soon enough big clubs came calling with Petit deciding to join his former manager at Arsenal for a sum of £2.5m then.
Wenger played him along side fellow French midfielder Viera as he made him the anchor man of midfield. Petit won a double in his very first season at the club as he went on to 118 times for Arsenal before moving to Barcelona with fellow team mate Overmars.
Petit didn't have much luck in Barcelona as he made only 23 appearances in his two seasons. As he decided to leave Chelsea came calling as he moved back to London had a successful career end as he played a brilliant part in clubs history as he formed a great partnership with Lampard.
International:
Petit managed to win the 1998 World Cup and 2000 Euro with the France national team. He even scored twice in the 98 campaign. Petit played 63 times for France and scored 6 goals in that time.
