Goals are the most celebrated of all acts in the World Cup, followed by foul (the funnier, the better) However, the playmakers are instrumental to the wellbeing of the game for the entire team, and this has been James Rodriguez for the Colombian team.
It could be a case similar to Portugal, with the entire team depending on their playmaker to sail them through their relatively tougher opponents – Ivory Coast. Or Rodriguez could somehow manage to tie the game together by working on a strong attack and keeping an eye out for his team mates on the defence. It looks hard on the team and even harder with the expectations piled up on the player who helped the team score three goals against Greece. However, the European team are a relatively easy lot to score against as compared to the bulkier players from the Ivory Coast.
Like many successful midfielders, a role that seems to demand a certain degree of versatility on the pitch, the 22-year old is agile. It does not do him justice to be called a right-winger or forward specifically, when he is able to attack equally from the left, right and forward. He was actively involved in all the goals they scored in their previous matches and does not need to personally shoot the ball into the goal to prove his mettle.
It would be sad if the entire team did not work to support the young player who already displays a lot of potential. If the previous match is any measure to go by, one can hope that the Colombians give the Ivory Coast team a tough fight.
