Argentina are already through to the knockouts, but would want to make sure that they stay on top of the group. Similarly, Nigeria just need a point to guarantee qualification. However, even they would like to win and go to the top of Group  F and use the momentum of a big win in their first knockout match. Both teams will look for putting all points on board.

Top Players to look out for

In form and one of the best in the World Lionel Messi will definitely be one to look out for. Messi will be looking to increase his goals tally because inspite of being one of the (or arguably the) best, he has failed to perform for his country at the highest level. However, Di Maria has shown good creative prowess and along with Sergio Aguero, they will be an attacking duo to look out for.

Nigeria do not boast a star studded squad and just scrambled a win over Bosnia in their previous match. Peter Odemwingie is in good form, apparent from the goal he scored for his country in the aforesaid match and will look to make a dent in Argentina’s campaign.

Head to Head

A direct head to head comparison would put Argentina as favourites having won 4 of the 6 matches these two countries have played. Nigeria have one 1 and 1 match was a draw. However, a closer look reveals that in these 6 matches, Argentina have scored 8 goals and Nigeria have scored 6. This would put both teams close in comparison and by this statistic, it could be anyone’s game.

Probable Lineups

Argentina: Sergio Romero, P.Zabaleta, Fernandez, M. Demichelis, M.Rojo, J.Mascherano, Angel Di Maria, Sergio Aguero, Lionel Messi, E.Lavezzi, F.Gago

Nigeria: V.Enyeama, Ambrose, J. Yobo, J.Oshaniwa, K.Omeruo, O.E.Onazi, John Obi Mikel, Ahmed Musa, P. Odemwingie, M.Babatunde, E. Emenike

Predictions:

Considering this is a World Cup of upsets, expect Nigeria to put up a show and look forward to a tight match. However, Argentina in all probability would squeeze out a win.

Nigeria 1 – 2 Argentina
