Match Report
The game was one of the marquee fixture of the week and it didn't disappoint one bit. Two powerhouses of English football squared off at Emirates to play out a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Danny Welbeck started for the home side after completing his switch from Manchester United while Aaron Ramsey wriggled off his injury in midweek to start the match. For visitors Frank Lampard was the starting after injury to Fernando was reported by Pellegrini in his press conference.
Midfielder Jack Wilshere was star for the home side as he chipped in with a goal and a assist. Sergio Aguero and Martin Demichellis saved the day for the reigning champions. Sergio Aguero gave visitors a shock lead as they pounced on some lackadaisical defending by the Gunners. Jack Wilshere brought them level with the help of a superb buildup play by Arsenal midfield.
The see-saw battle continued with new boy Alexis Sanchez giving Arsenal a lead with 20 minutes off the clock. Again the midfield duo of Ramsey and Wilshere combined in the build up to the goal.
Substitute Kolarov turned the tide for the Citizens as he continued to wreak havoc with his deadly crosses in closing stages. Martin Demichellis brought City back into the game with a thumping header with 7 minutes to go. Defender Mathieu Debuchy was stretched off late in the game as he twisted his ankle by an awkward landing.
Both the sides had quite a few glorious opportunities in last 5 minutes but failed to capitalize on any of them due to some poor finishing. The result was befitting as both the sides deserved at least point from this.
