Barcelona beat Juventus to lift the Champions Trophy!
Barcelona beat Juventus 3 – 1 in the Champions League finals to win the treble this season. Catalans become the first team ever to twice win their domestic double as well as the Champions League. Barcelona played to win and created more number of lethal chances than Juventus. Juventus took most of their chances from outside the box with 9 of their 14 shots coming from outside the box.
Barcelona went in front after only three minutes and 22 seconds, with Juventus having no answer to the Catalans’ tiki taka style of football.Rakitic opened the scoring in what can be described as a typical Barcelona goal, in the fourth minute, when 9 of the 10 outfield players combined well to set the Croatian midfielder for the opener.
Juventus bounced back in the second half when Morata scored off a Ter Stegen save which rebounded off the keeper when he saved a Carlos Tevez shot. Claudio Marchisio's nifty backheel helped Tevez get his shot on target. Morata then found himself in the perfect place for a rebound and managed to equalize for the Italian side.
Lionel Messi once again showed the world his brilliance when a fantastic dribble by the Argentine was followed by a shot which Buffon couldn’t manage to save. Luis Suarez was quick to pounce on the ball and score one of the most important goals for Barcelona during his short spell with the Spanish side.
Neymar looked to have wrapped up victory with a header soon after, but the official on the byline spotted his header had deflected off a hand. The Forward then found the back of the net with the last kick of the game when a Juventus Free-kick was cleared by Barcelona, enabling them to break forward. Pedro assisted the Brazilian in great style, as Neymar slotted the ball past Buffon with ease. It was astonishing to see the number of times Juventus, a side with 27 clean sheets this season, looked so exposed and outplayed.
