Game report:

A blockbuster on the second day of the new champions league season saw Manchester City travel to Germany to take on the 2013 winners. Though the outcome wasn't as expected but the English champions did well to defend their goal until a 90th minute Boateng goal.

With both the teams defending and not giving space to each other, the game opened up the half went on. With a injury stricken City side, struggling to take control of the midfield; Yaya, taking the attacking onus to himself, Fernandinho was left alone for Muller and Gotze to run the channels. Xabi Alonso was partnered by two orthodox midfielders in Alaba and Lahm. Dzeko starting up front for City to provide for some much needed muscle. The first real chance fell to Bayern striker Lewandokski who headed the ball over the goal from a great cross by Bernat. Hart was brilliant on the night with his performance inspiring the city side, probably the man of the game. City couldn't cope with Bayern's high pressing tactics and crumpled to the pressure, with the German side having most of the ball.

But the English side defended sturdily and managed to hold their own. City had a shout for penalty rejected, after Spanish midfielder David silva was fouled in the box. The introduction for James Milner for the ineffective Samir Nasri gave City a new lease of life in the last ten minutes of the game. But, Manchester City who defended well for 89 minutes of the game were punished by a great goal from their former man Boateng. A 90th minute winner and three points for the German side.
