Cagliari sack manager Gianfranco Zola

Gianfranco Zola has been relieved from his duties by Cagliari after a disastrous run of 10 games. The Cagliari legend had a tumultuous reign at the managerial hot seat and Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Sampdoria was the last nail in the coffin.

The defeat left the Sardinian club 18th in Serie A and the club struggled miserably under Zola since his appointment in December. The club in its statement said,

“A decision made reluctantly against a great man who wrote unforgettable pages in the history of Cagliari, giving luster and international prestige to the land of Sardinia.”

Zola has previously had unsuccessful managerial stints at West Ham and Watford in England.
