Chelsea is planning to revamp Stamford Bridge
If reports in the British media are anything to go by then Chelsea Football Club is planning to increase the capacity of its stadium, Stamford Bridge. The Bridge, whose current capacity is 41,623, will be buffed up to 60,000.
For the stadium renovations to take place, the Blues will have yo move out from their current stadium for a season. One such venue that has been shortlisted by the club is Twickenham, which is the home to the Rugby Union of England. Its capacity is a massive 82,000.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, the RFU said:
"We are regularly contacted by a variety of organisations, within and outside sport, on a wide range of opportunities concerning the use of what we believe is a world-class stadium.
"We have had an inquiry from Chelsea FC but have not had any discussions of any substance.
"While we don't comment on any specific confidential conversations, each request is taken on its merit, assessing a variety of factors, such as the effect on the pitch, availability, transport and local considerations and other important implications."
Meanwhile, Chelsea administrators are still monitoring different options and haven’t reached a decisive conclusion as of yet.
A Chelsea spokesman told the Sunday Times:
"We're investigating different scenarios as part of the consultation process we started earlier this year, but have had no discussions of substance so far."
However a move to Twickenham would not be possible before 2016-17 season as it is going to host Rugby Union's World Cup matches next summer.
