Chelsea edged past Liverpool in what appears to be an ill-tempered game after extra time as Branislav Ivanovic’s 94th minute header was what it took Chelsea into League Cup finals.
Liverpool were at their best as they came out all guns blazing against the league leaders at Bridge. Both sides needed a goal to seal a berth in finals and Chelsea got theirs while Liverpool, unluckily didn’t.
Diego Costa and Martin Skrtel seemed to be having their own mini war on the pitch amidst this titanic clash where both teams were looking for a win and nothing else. Costa allegedly stamped the Liverpool man and from then on both were at loggerheads for rest of the night. Costa was at his notorious best as he allegedly stomped of Emre Can as well. Also he clattered with Liverpool’s captain Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool were at full throttle while Chelsea were stuck somewhere in middle of top gear and average. It took 94 minutes for Chelsea to break down Liverpool defense as Willian’s harmless freekick was slotted home by the Serb.
Chelsea will now face either Sheffield Wednesday or Spurs in final of the Capital One Cup.
