Chennaiyin FC 3-1 FC Pune City Report

Chennaiyin FC XI: Bracigliano, Khabra, Mendy, Gouramangi, Dhana, Djemba-Djemba, Bojan, Denson, Elano, Jeje, Mendoza

FC Pune City XI: Arindam, Sarkar, Magliocchetti, Bruno, Ravanan, Pritam, Kostas, Pennant, Gurung, Colomba, Trezeguet

Chennaiyins routed FC Pune as they go top of the table with a 3-1 win over the Maharashtra side at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Chennai.

Chennaiyin completely dominated the match from the word go and they took their chances very well. Stiven Mendoza was wreaking havoc on Pune’s defense with his pace and skills. He also scored the opener for the Southerners in 62nd minute as he linked up beautifully with Balwant Singh.

Eight minutes later, the home side struck again as former Manchester United man Eric Djemba-Djemba scored the own goal for Pune. Davide Colomba's shot led to Djemba-Djemba’s own goal. It all got a bit crazy in Chennai as within seconds Chennaiyin wrestled their lead back through Pelissari who deflected the ball into Pune’s net.

The game settled down a bit till Jeje Lalpekhlua killed the tie with Chennaiyin’s third in 90th minute. This win came at a cost for the home side as their star play maker Elano Blumer limped off the pitch due to an injury caused due to a collision in 14th minute.

Chennaiyin’s superior goal difference sees them lead the league over Atletico because of Southerners’ profligacy in front of goal.
