Everton XI: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Stones, Baines, Barry, Besic, Pienaar, Mcgeady, Naismith, Lukaku.

Manchester United rose to the 4th place in the league thanks to outstanding displays from David De Gea and Angel Di Maria. The match also saw Radamel Falcao score his debut goal for the Red Devils.

United started off the game promisingly as it has been norm of sorts for them in recent past. The home made their early dominance as they went ahead to a sublime Angel Di Maria goal in 27th minute. Everton had a nonexistent first half till they earned a penalty via a Luke Shaw mistake. But it seemed that wasn’t the day of good luck for Toffees as Leighton Baines missed his first ever penalty in Premier League as he drew a fine save from United’s Spanish shot stopper David De Gea.

The visitors started off the second half in promising fashion and were soon rewarded for their efforts via a Steven Naismith goal. The equaliser brought United’s slow start to second half back to life as the home side started to push for the winner.

The hosts finally managed to get their lead via fine goal from Radamel Falcao. Di Maria scuffed his shot and Falcao was the first one to react to this as he showed exactly why United are paying all those pounds for him. The match saw return of Marouane Fellaini after his injury and this season’s debut for 19 year old James Wilson.

United withstood a late barrage from Everton as David De Gea proved to be the hero. The 23 year old made some out of the world saves within the last 10 minutes to deny Toffees a deserved equaliser. Everton suffered an injury set back as defender John Stones was stretchered off after an awkward landing in 92nd minute.

MOTM – David De Gea.
