A statement on Chelsea’s website read:
“Chelsea Football Club is pleased to
announce Thibaut Courtois has today
signed a new five-year contract.”
The 20 year old stopper was elated after signing the contract. Courtois said: “I’m very happy with this new deal, it’s really nice to have signed this new contract for five years."
He further went on to add, "My future was already sorted but it’s nice to know I’m going to be here for another five years and now I can just concentrate on playing games. I hope we can win a lot of games and trophies.”
This contract signing all but confirmsthe end of Petr Cech as the Chelsea number One. Cech was already displaced by the Belgian at the start of this season.
Courtois won La Liga with Atletico Madrid along with reaching Champions League finals losing out to city rivals Real, when on loan from Chelsea last year.
