Central Railway ride to win on Rashid’s goal


Mumbai, April 6: Central Railway chugged to a hard-fought narrow 1-0 victory against a resolute Dena Bank in an Elite Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the Cooperage ground, on Monday evening.


After a barren opening session, Central Railway broke the Dena Bank resistance when striker Rashid Shaikh from a snap effort fired home the lone goal in the 73rd minute of the match.


This was the third win for Central Railway, who had earlier defeated Maharashtra State Police 2-1 and scored over Mumbai Customs by a 1-0 margin and now tally nine points.


Result, Elite Division: Central Railway 1 (Rashid Shaikh 73rd) beat Dena Bank 0.


I Tax hold Mumbai FC to 3-3 draw


Mumbai, April 6: Mumbai FC Under-19 were held to a 3-3 draw by Income Tax in a well-contested Super Division playoff match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel, on Monday evening.


The Mumbai FC youngsters showed great character to match their senior and more experienced opponents and share the spoils and two points.


Strikers Digvijay Yadav, Prince Anandraj and Rahul Das were on target scoring a goal each for Mumbai FC colts, while Raj Trivedi struck one and Madan Takalikar scored two goals, the second a late equalizer, for Income Tax.


Earlier Third Division encounters, Daspati VFO proved too good as they trounced Ruffians FC ‘B’ by a comfortable 3-0 margin and Ansh Travels also had a good outing recording a 2-0 win against Steadfast SC ‘B’.


Results – Super Div (play-off): Mumbai FC Under-19 (Digvijay Yadav, Prince Anandraj, Rahul Das) drew with Income Tax 3 (Madan Takalikar 2, Raj Trivedi).


Div-III: Daspati VFO 3 (Vineet Jain, Shubham Khanvilkar, Devendra Salvi) beat Ruffians FC ‘B’ 0; Rahul Mitra Mandal 2 (Rakesh D., Sandesh Malpute) beat Kalina Youngsters 1 (Viraj Thakur); Ansh Travels 2 (Rishi Milani 2) beat Steadfast SC ‘B’ 0.
