The 36-year-old left the club in 2012 and later played for Shanghai Shenhua and Turkish Champions Galatasaray, today returned to the London club on a one-year-deal.
He spoke after his return and said, “It was an easy-decision – I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work with Jose again.
“Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club nad it has always felt like home to me,” said the Ivory Coast International.
He continued, “My desire to win is still the same and I look forward to the opportunity to help the team. I’m excited for this new chapter of my career.”
With his return he will play a role as a player-coach under Jose Mourinho and will likely get a headstart to a career as a manager.
The legend has scored 157 goals for the Premier League club and is among the top 10 all-time scorers for the Londoners.
