Everton trump Manchester United by three goals as the curse of Goodison continues to haunt Manchester United. Goals from James McCarthy, John Stones and Kevin Mirallas left Man Utd shell-shocked.
Everton started the game positively and they hit their visitors on a bristling counterattack and James McCarthy while stumbling scored the opening goal. Manchester United had committed too many bodies upfront and Everton swiftly capitalized on this and hit United.
John Stones scored the second from a corner to increase United’s woes. The Reds went into the halftime down by two goals to nil and outdone by themselves for their sloppy play.
The visitors started the second half on front foot and looked more threatening than in the first half. They came close on multiple occasions to pull one goal back but were denied by Everton’s stubborn defence led by Tim Howard, who made some stunning saves.
Everton scored their third in obnoxious fashion as Kevin Mirallas capitalized on Manchester United’s switched off defense. Romelu Lukaku was offside and the ball was played to him from midfield. The Belgian chased the ball which led the United back line appeal for offside and all of the paused suddenly including Lukaku. But Mirallas kept running from deep and capitalized on this awkward situation by putting the ball past a helpless David de Gea.
It was a nightmare for United as their curse of Goodison Park continues to spook them out time and again.
