Radamel Falcao is heralded as one of the best strikers in the world. His move to Manchester United in summer was envied by many and was considered as a coup of sorts. But seven months down the line, many of his suitors in the summer would be heaving a sigh of relief.
One of the most feared striker in the world just over a year ago is now a joke in England. The Manchester United man has failed to impress Louis van Gaal and supporters by giving some pedestrian performances over the course of season which is also marred by injuries.
The Columbian has failed to dazzle Premier League and his performance at Deepdale just rubbed salt to the injuries. Falcao was bullied by a League One defense which is very shameful for a striker of his caliber.
BBC’s Chris Bevan writes that, “The worry for United, but maybe especially for the player himself, is just how easily he was marshalled by a League One defence.
For a player who has starred for Colombia and been a leading light in Portugal, La Liga and Ligue 1, his movement was poor, and too easily tracked by Preston's three central defenders.”
Martin Keown too was highly critical of Man United loanee.
He said, "He just did not have the pace to get away from the Preston defence," said Keown.
"Is he fit enough? He's trying to prove he should be here in the long term but it's just not coming off for him."
Van Gaal has an option to buy Falcao for a fee in excess of £40m, if his performances are anything to go by then the Dutchman will surely look for options elsewhere.
