If it’s Goa then it’s Football

FC Goa open their ISL campaign by hosting a star studded Chennaiyin FC. Goa is known for its inherent love for football apart from scenic beaches and cheap booze. ISL heads to its spiritual home with FC Goa led by Brazilian legend Zico look to get off to a flyer against Chennaiyin FC.

Goa has loads of local lads with some charismatic foreigners. Only them and North East USC have majority of local players in their ranks.

Chennaiyin have one of the strongest Indian contingents with blend of some stellar foreign bigwigs. Marco Materazzi at helm, his team will be just like him. Get the job done and piss off your opponent. If anyone wants an opinion on that ask Zinedine Zidane, he’ll give a word or two.

This match will have a few key battles which will ultimately decide who will walk away with all 3 points.

Key Battles –

Grégory Arnolin vs Jeje Lalpekhlua

It is going to be one of the most keenly fought battles. A battle of contrasting styles just like Ying and Yang. Jeje is known for his guile and pace. While Armolin for his physicality. Jeje who is considered by many as heir to Baichung Bhutia’s legacy is one of the brightest spark in India.

A trequartista Jeje will harass the Frenchman with his movement. But the Frenchman isn’t stranger to such stuff after having plied his trade at top clubs like PSG and Madeira. A mouthwatering contest is on the cards.

Miguel Herlein vs Mikael Silvestre

The Portuguese forward will be having his hands full with as he will deal with a legendary Frenchman in Mikael Silvestre. The Benfica graduate is a bright prospect and can surely learn from Zico.

He is known for his trickery and shot from distance. Well Silvestre needs no introduction. Manchester United and Arsenal man knws as he has spent almost his entire career at the top.

Star Picks –

FC Goa –

Robert Pires –

The Arsenal invincible may be ageing but he has still got that dash of class and his impeccable vision. A treat to watch, Goa’s any foray forward will be through this pass-master.

Chennaiyin FC –

Bojan Djordic –

Former Manchester United midfielder knows what it takes to slid his attackers through. A deep lying midfielder he is able to do the dirty work and also to come up with his moment of brilliance. A complete midfielder, he is going to relish to play with the likes of Jeje and Mendy.
