Pune and Chennaiyin share the spoils in Balewadi as Stiven Mendoza’s stunner saved the day for the Southerners. Pune were dominant in the first half while both teams evened out in the second.
And this midfield dominance paid off as Kostas scored the opener for the hosts in some style. Chennai were simply clueless about what was going on in the game as they were a bit patchy.
But second half was a different story altogether. Chennaiyin’s attackers got their act together and they started to make some inroads in Pune’s half. But Stiven Mendoza just lighted up the match with a stunner! He levelled for the visitors in 58th minute and scored a goal which is possibly one of the best goals of the tournament.
Both the teams looked out for a winner for the last half an hour but their respective defenses hung on. A win for either side could have propelled them to top of the table but a draw keeps Atletico de Kolkata on top albeit on goal difference.
