Gaikwad brace propels Air India to big win


Mumbai, April 4: Defending champions Air India scored another fine win putting it across Central Bank of India by a 4-1 margin in an Elite Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the Cooperage ground, on Saturday evening.


Strikers Neil Gaikwad was star with his two goals, in the 34th minute and the second in the first minute of additional time in the first half. Bushan Thure provided Air India with a flying start by scoring the opening goal in the very fifth minute and Vishnu T. added the third in the 37th minute. Hitesh Chodankar converted a penalty in the 63rd minute to reduce the margin for the bankers.


Result, Elite Division: Air India 4 (Bushan Thure 5th, Neil Gaikwad 34th, 45+1st, Vishnu T. 37th) beat Central Bank of India 1 (Hitesh Chodankar 63rd pen).

Mumbai, April 11: Mumbai Warriors SC and Air India Under-19 shared the spoils as they were engaged in a thrilling 3-3 draw in a Super Division playoff match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel, on Saturday.


Kshijit Dabholkar, Ikenna Ahukanna and Henry Oreji were bang on target for the Warriors, while Air India colts got their goals through a brace by Sohail Khatri and one from Allan Dias.


Earlier in a First Division encounter, Mumbai Strikers riding on Ravish D’Souza’s double strikes and one from Akshay Devediga romped to a facile 3-1 win against Bombay FC. Melwin Castelino netted the lone goal for the losers.


Results – Super Div (play-off): Mumbai Warriors SC 3 (Kshijit Dabholkar, Ikenna Ahukanna, Henry Oreji) drew with Air India Under-19 3 (Sohail Khatri 2, Allan Dias).


Div-I: Mumbai Strikers 3 (Ravish D’Souza 2, Akshay Devediga) beat Bombay FC 1 (Melwin Castelino).
