Tears rolled down the cheeks, with Ibrox paying tribute to Ricksen, and boy did Rangers fans do it well.
A guard of honour going on to the pitch then a lap of honour, carried on the shoulders of his former team-mates.
Ricksen ravaged by motor neurone disease, just thanked God, that he gave a life instead of taking him away. Sad word was a understatement, with the sight of the 36-year-old struggling was tough to watch, especially when he had a fall after taking kick-off but when he got back to his feet it was easy to see what it meant to the Dutchman.

Ricksen which robbed him of his speech, was read by a Roy Knez,
He said: “Fellow Bluenoses, thank you for your support. The numbers who turned out make me feel so happy. It gives me fighting spirit.
“When I played here I gave everything for the world’s most successful club. Now the club and the fans have given me so much more back. I need it now.
“I’ve never been so proud to be a Rangers man. Thank you, I love you. Rangers forever.”
We wish Ricksen a good life and a good recovery.
