I League - The countdown begins

Football has grown leaps and bounds since the last time I-League was played. Thanks to ISL, the ‘real’ league will get much needed visibility and appreciation.

The opening encounter of the 2015 season is just two days away. The traditional rivalries will come to the fore. The true fans of the game will start sporting their colors as they will back their ‘home’ teams.

The Kolkata giants will be ready to battle it out with the Goan powerhouses. And above them will be the Southern dynamites from Bengaluru, who will surely look to do an encore of 2014 season. The league will also see new boys from Pune, who will try to make a mark of their own in this star studded lineup. And last but by no means the least, the clubs from North east will be the giant killers.

The Federation Cup gave us the glimpse of what can be expected from this season of I-League. It will again be the battle between Bengaluru FC and the Goans, Dempo and Salgaocar. But surprises are the norm in I-League and so it would be foolish to predict anything in advance.

Let the ‘real' footballing extravaganza begin!
