Lee Johnson is the head coach of the U23 Indian Team!
He was Technical Director of Rwandan Football Association before agreeing to come here. He resigned from that post after receiving an offer from AIFF. He stated that he aimed to develop his own career with this move to India.
"“I would like to officially tender my resignation as the national technical director of the Rwandan Football Federation.
“Over the past few weeks I have been approached by a number of professional organisations who have been interested in acquiring my services.
"I have, therefore, decided to accept an offer from the All India Football Federation to become the new Assistant National team coach and head coach for the under-23 national team.
“The decision I have made is with a dedicated eye on my personal aims as a coach and is something that I felt was right for me in order to develop my career. It goes without saying that I wish the federation every success for the future,” Johnson said in his resignation letter.
Kushal Das explained the rationale behind Johnson’s selection and said that he has been cherry picked by the head coach Stephen Constantine.
“Johnson is a young man and has been handpicked by Stephen as his assistant. He will also be the chief coach of the India under-23 team," said Kushal Das, general secretary of the AIFF.
