Match Report

Liverpool's shoddy start to the season continues as they slumped to a shock defeat to this years highflyers Aston Villa. It was a major boost to Paul Lambert's job security as a 3 points against a top half opposition did a world of good to Villans.

Daniel Sturridge and Joe Allen missed out due ti injuries in midweek for Liverpool while Raheem Sterling was rested. For Villa Tom Cleverley made his debut at worst place imaginable for a ex Manchester United player.

Gaby Agbonlahor scored on a bristling counter as Liverpool's defense was caught napping. Villa who have conceded just a goal till now for the entire campaign thanks to a solid defensive organization. They managed to stifle the home side with aplomb this term as well.

Mario Balotelli and Adam Lallana both had their Anfield debuts but still could not prevent the defeat. Liverpool's atrack lacked lethal finishing touch to their build up play. This was evident as they had just a single shot on target in the whole match.

Sterling too was ineffective as Villa executed their plan to the T. This was Liverpool's second defeat of the season and first at home.
