Arsenal shoved away their midweek disappointment in Dortmund with a comprehensive 0-3 win at Villa Park. Arsenal scored 3 goals in 192 seconds, in a way undoing all the good work Villa did in blink of an eye.
Mesut Özil led a this blitzkrieg as he scored and assisted one as he showed glimpses of his Real Madrid days. Danny Welbeck too joined the party with a goal and an assist. This was Welbeck's first league goal for the Gunners. Wenger shifted Özil back to his favored no 10 position, it paid and how!
Villa who have been a revelation this term had conceded just 3 goals before this game. They were also buoyed by 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield. But still Villa were raft whilst attacking. This maybe down to the fact that many of the Aston Villa players were not 100% fit and six players missed this game.
The visitors were always the side who had an intent to attack as the home side were content to sit deep and catch their opponents on break.
Mesut Özil opened the scoring in 30th minute after he slotted home a low driven cross from Danny Welbeck. Then the German playmaker returned the favour to his English teammate by supplying him with a delightful ball. Arsenal went 2-0 up in span of 100 seconds. Villa were shell shocked by this sudden outburst by Arsenal. In less than other 100 seconds, Villa again succumbed to Arsenal pressure as Aly Cissokho turned the ball into his own net. Kieran Gibbs fired a shot towards the goal which was going wide, until Cissokho stuck his leg out.
In second half, story was same. Villa despite being 3-0 down were still content to sit back and let the visitors have the initiative. This match was a Mesut Özil show as the under fire midfielder gave a befitting reply to all his doubters and critics. Meanwhile, Villa who have a torrid run of fixtures can take heart from this defeat. They didn't play a bad game, they just played bad for 3 minutes.
