Messi inching closer to La Liga record
Lionel Messi is on the verge of another milestone as he is just two goals shy of equaling the record of most goals by a player in La Liga. The record is currently held by Athletic Bilbao legend Telmo Zarra. Zarra scored 251 goals for the Basque club.
If Messi scores a hat-trick then he’ll be the record goalscorer in La Liga history. Barca face new boys Eibar this weekend and if everything along the expected lines Messi may even break the record. Messi also completed 10 years in Barcelona first team. He made his debut in 2004 under Frank Rijkaard against their local rivals Espanyol.
Messi took Facebook to address his fans and colleagues as he congratulated them for his incredible journey at Camp Nou.
Messi wrote:
"I want to say thanks to all my family, friends, team-mates and FC Barcelona staff for their support in these 10 incredible years.
"I've always enjoyed being on the pitch, wearing these colors, living amazing moments and I'm constantly trying to improve and win more titles with my team. A hug for everyone!"
