Another injury jolt for the Gunners as Mesut Ozil joins the long and never ending queue of Arsenal superstars on the physio table. Arsenal are already thin in their midfield with Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta already out with injuries.
Germany and Arsenal playmaker has returned from Germany back to London ahead of Germany’s crucial Euro qualifier against neighbours Poland this week due to a knee injury.
The midfielder felt a sore knee post his club’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. He underwent MRI scan in Germany with national team which revealed that the player has a partial lateral collateral ligament tear in his left knee.
The statement on German Football Federeation’s (DFB) website read as follows –
“Mesut Özil has been ruled out of the upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Poland in Warsaw and Ireland in Gelsenkirchen. The Arsenal attacker will also have to sit out the final two international fixtures of the year - Germany face Gibraltar in a European Championship qualifier in Nuremberg before a friendly against Spain in Vigo on 18th November.
The 25-year-old complained about discomfort in his knee on Tuesday when he arrived in Frankfurt. Having been examined by team doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt today in Munich, it was discovered that he has a partial lateral collateral ligament tear in his left knee. Mesut Özil is expected to be out for ten to twelve weeks.”
Arsenal also stated that the German wasn’t in prime condition after afternoon match on Sunday. The London club hasn’t given any timeframe regarding his return.
They said in a statement –
“Ozil complained of a sore left knee after the game and the club advised the German FA to run medical checks when he joined up with his international squad.
The club will make further assessments and it is too early to say how long Ozil may be out of action."
This means that Ozil won’t feature on the football field at Emirates at least before the turn of the year i.e. in 2015.
