Overview:

Mumbai City FC had shock results yesterday as they were handed their second loss of the inaugural ISL by the Highlanders from the NorthEast. The game which took place in D.Y Patil stadium in Mumbai, saw a two unchanged side take on each other as both the managers were happy with their team’s performance in their last game.

Two second half goals from the NorthEast United helped them get three crucial points, against a Mumbai side who drubbed Pune by five goals the last game. The first chance of the game fell to the Mumbai team with hattrick hero Moritz hitting the ball high and wide. The NEUFC team suffered a injury blow as Chansa had to be replace because he couldn’t continue.

At the 18th minute mark, the visitors almost opened the scoring as Felipe intercepted the ball in midfield and released the Spanish player Koke who cut inside only for ball to fly over the goal. The two combined again, this time over a free kick. But again couldn’t find the target. The half ended goalless.

The second half kicked off with Mumbai having a man less, as the substitute and marquee man Ljunberg stood on the side-lines for his introduction. Cmovs was booked for a serious tackle. As the game progressed, North East dominated and the proceedings and played good brand of passing football. The first break came at the 57 minute with Mtonga scoring for the visitors as they took the lead after cagey first half.

Mumbai who conceded the goal, tried to reduce the deficit by getting one back, but North East United where so tactically blended that, they refused to give any space as all the attempts got fizzled out in the final third.

Marquee man, Ljungberg went down with a bad cramp with him being unable to continue the game any further, and Mumbai already having used all their three substitutes played with a man down for the last 15 or so minutes of the game.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 90th minute as the Mumbai team faced their second defeat in three matches.
