Party scenes go all wrong after Benfica fans and riot police clash in Portugal
Benfica secured their second consecutive league title after drawing 0-0 with Vitória Guimarães, but celebrations soon turned sour after heavy-handed actions by police.
Two men and two children were filmed talking to police, but were suddenly being attacked and hit by the police.
In the initial rush, both the father and the youngest child were knocked to the ground by one policeman, who then got up and punched the grandfather in the face twice.
Benfica's president, Luís Filipe Vieira, dedicated the league title to the club's fans.
He said: "We are all happy. All Benfica fans are happy and this title is dedicated to all of them.
"Our union led us to back-to-back championships once again, something which we were trying for a long time.”
Veteran defender and captain Luisao echoed Vieira's sentiments, saying: "This 34th title means a lot. I’m very proud of this club and of the supporters.
"We are one and that shows on the pitch. We worked very hard throughout the season."
Benfica coach Jesus said: "What comes to mind is to have worked for Benfica's goals, always respecting our opponents. We played well in the first 45 minutes, in which we could have scored several goals.
"For everything we worked during the season, these players deserve this championship. We are a family and we owe the title to our union.
"The players and fans are to be congratulated, as well as the whole Benfica structure."
