JDT 4-1 East Bengal FC – Report

JDT push aside their AFC Champions Cup disappointment with a thumping of India’s Kingfisher East Bengal as Safee Salim starred for the Malaysians in the opening game of the AFC Cup.

The hosts rested many of their key players for this encounter as they didn’t want to go all out for this game. East Bengal on the other hand, are still reeling from the change in the dugout as they are still searching for their first win under Eelco Schattorie.

JDT opened scoring in as early as 9th minute as Mazrin Nawi opened the scoring for the hosts in what seemed to be simple goal for the Malaysians. East Bengal equalised via Ranti Martins in the 33rd minute against the run of play. JDT dominated the game from the offset and they soon asserted their dominance by scoring once again.

Milan Susak’s handball inside the box gave hosts a way into the game as they regained their lead within two minutes. Safiq’a cool penalty past Abhijit Mondal gave hosts a morale boosting lead entering into the half time.

East Bengal conceded inside the opening five minutes of the second half as Chanturu scored a perfect poacher’s goal. And within another five minutes, Safee’s superb bicycle kick sealed the game for the hosts. The win crushed East Bengal’s morale as they are still coming grips to a torrid season.
