Per Mertescaker optimistic about his side’s prospects ahead of Arsenal's visit to Stamford Bridge
The German defender has warned Chelsea that not to expect the Arsenal side of yesteryears this term. Gunners have been thrashed on consecutive visits to the Bridge but their stand in captain was upbeat about his side and hoped his side will get a better result than their recent visits to South-west London.
"Obviously it is a good lift. We have got good confidence at the moment and will try to implement that into the game on Sunday," Mertesacker said.
"We know we can do better than the two consecutive seasons (at Chelsea) before and I think we will try new things on Sunday to get a better result than last year."
The 30 year old World cup winner was particularly impressed with the new summer recruit in Danny Welbeck, who is coming fresh off a Champions League hat trick against Galatasaray and said that the Englishman has settled in completely at the Emirates.
"He is the main threat at the moment, especially on the counter-attack," said Mertesacker of the 23-year-old.
"We have players who can put him in the right situations and that is what we need to find ourselves.
"It took a bit of time, but I think now we are on the spot and we see what it takes to be a team and to be fully integrated."
