Córdoba1 1-2 Real Madrid – Report

Cordoba: Martin Corral, Gunino, Pantic, Crespo, Fraga, Rodríguez Barrera, Rossi, Bebe, Nicolas Cartabia, Ghilas, Andone (Vico Villegas 80).

Real Madrid: Casillas, Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo (Fabio Coentrao 72), Khedira (Illarramendi 64), Kroos, Rodríguez (Jese 80), Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo.

Real Madrid had to dig deep in order to overcome a cocky Cordoba side in their La Liga clash this weekend. Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off for punching Cordoba defender Jose Angel Crespo in the 83rd minute.

The game began with a shock lead from Cordoba as Nabil Ghilas scored a 3rd minute penalty as Sergio Ramos handled the ball in his own penalty area. From then on it was an uphill task for the Liga leaders as the hosts went into the ‘park the bus mode’.

Real pulled one back through Karim Benzema in the 27th minute. The world record signing Gareth Bale showed his dash of class as he cheekily flicked the ball to Benzema who made no mistake and slid the ball past Martin Corral. This brought Real right at the doorstep of making an another comeback.

Los Blancos relentlessly knocked at the Cordoba door and were steadily upping the ante as the minutes passed in the game. But all hell broke loose in 83rd minute. Real’s talisman and World’s Best Player, Cristiano Ronaldo just lost his common sense as he punched Cordoba’s Jose Angel Crespo along with a shaky slap.

Referee wasted no time in sending Ronaldo for an early bath as the Portuguese walked arrogantly off the pitch by dusting the specks of dust of his jersey. There are even reports that he will face a ban for his shameful behavior. Even though he apologized on Twitter but a ban is on the horizon.

With no Ronaldo on the field it seemed an uphill task for the Liga leaders to get past Cordoba side who at least deserved a draw. Nicolas Cartabia’s foolish handball late in the game gave the World champions a ray of hope as he got sent off for earning his second yellow for handling the ball inside his own penalty box. Gareth Bale calmly converted the penalty as Real Madrid sealed all the three points right into the stoppage time.
