Mexican Politician calls Brazilian legend Ronaldinho an ‘Ape’

It looks like not everyone in Mexico is pleased at the sight of former World Player of the Year playing in the country. There was a furor in Mexico as well as in the footballing circles as a Mexican politician Treviño Núñez called Ronaldinho an ‘ape’ and football as a 'circus'. He was Social Development secretary of the government of Querétaro from 2006 to 2009. The politician used social media to vent out his anger and frustration.

The politician wrote on Facebook, “I am really trying to be tolerant, but I HATE SOCCER and the stupidity it creates… I hate it even more because people blocks and floods the avenues to make me take two hours to get home… And all this to watch an APE… A Brazilian one, but still an ape. This it turning into a ridiculous circus.”

The post was later on deleted but it became viral in a matter of moments. This hasn't gone down well anywhere in world due to the racist overtones of the comment. A sad state of affairs for a player of Ronaldinho's stature, who in spite of all the accolades and success has to face racism.
