Ex-football official ‘Shabbir Bhai’ passes away
Mumbai, June 11: Former football administrator Shabbir Ahmed passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest in Mumbai on Thursday. Popular known as ‘Shabbir Bhai’ among the football community, he had recently recovered from a ‘stroke’ he had suffered a couple of month ago.
Ahmed was a bachelor.
Ahmed was the Assistant Secretary of Mohammed Sporting football club, Calcutta (now Kolkata) during the term 1975-76. After he moved from Kolkata to Mumbai, Ahmed was actively involved with the newly formed Bengal Mumbai Football Club (BMFC) which was founded in 1998. He diligently served the club as advisor, manager and mentor till the club closed in 2011.
Shabbir Bhai was an immense football enthusiast and very passionate about the game as he would never miss a game, no matter whichever division it was, at the Cooperage ground. He along with Indian legends, the late Deryek De Souza and Bhandya Khakde could be spotted every evening sitting under a banyan tree near the old Cooperage (WIFA) club house watching the proceedings on the football field.
As per the request from his family his body will taken to Kolkata for the final rites.
