Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has been handed an eight match ban after placing hitting the fourth official during his side’s 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup second leg.
Simeone was involved in an accident when his side took on their neighbours in the Champions league finals in May. Then El Cholo lost his temper and kicked the ball at Varane. Simeone has always been known for having anger management issues, especially from his playing days. It looks as if he hasn’t lost any of those traits.
The boss will sit and watch his team from the stands for eight consecutive games which could cost the side crucial points. Atletico take on Rayo on the opening day of the season, and that is when the ban commences.
The former Argentinian international tapped the fourth official on the back of his head during Atletico’s win over Real, he received a four-game ban for the incident itself, with a further two games for protesting the referee’s decision with one game for sarcastically applauding, and another for failing to leave the ground.
Simeone told the press he would accept the consequences of his actions before the length of the ban was made official, per AS:
“The matter is closed. It doesn't do any good to keep talking about the same thing. The people who make the decisions will have to see what a fair punishment is. When someone makes a mistake it's right that they pay for it, we are waiting to see what the price is. Germán Burgos has the ability [to stand in] and he has my trust; we see football in the same way.”
While Diego Simeone’s talents as a manager are unquestionable, his temper though is. His temper has been known to get the better of him during heated arguments.
