Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge celebrates double milestones

London’s iconic Stamford Bridge reached a unique distinction of hosting 4000 games in all competitions since its inception when they hosted Aston Villa yesterday. Simultaneously, they also reached another milestone of hosting 2000 league games.

Stamford Bridge, was founded in the year 1877 was initially the home of London Athletic Club. It was not until 1905, when the Bridge began hosting their occupants, Chelsea Football Club.

The Bridge, as it is fondly known in London, has been host to many international matches as well as FA Cup finals and semi-finals. Before the inception of the Wembley, it was the preferred option for all big money matches in England.

Astonishingly, Stamford Bridge has played hosts to various sports like rugby, cricket, speedway, greyhound racing, baseball and American football.

Surely, it is one of the most iconic stadia in England as history gives a rich testimony about the Bridge.
