Striker Alam strikes 2 in Customs’ win
Mumbai, March 13: Striker Sajjad Alam’s twin strikes helped Mumbai Customs record a comfortable 4-0 win against Companeroes SC in an Elite Division match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) League 2015, played at the Cooperage ground on Friday evening. Seasoned Hekmat Singh and hard-working Deepak Irmali struck the other two goals for Customs who dominated the match from the start.
ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation) registered an identical 4-0 margin of victory against Kenkre FC in another Elite Division encounter. Lavino Fernandes, Joel Sequeira, Hassan Md. Adeola and Jatin Bisht, all netted a goal each to complete the tally for ONGC.
Results – Elite Division: Mumbai Customs 4 (Sajjad Alam 2, Hekmat Singh, Deepak Irmali) beat Companeroes SC 0.
ONGC 4 (Lavino Fernandes, Joel Sequeira, Hassan Md. Adeola, Jatin Bisht) beat Kenkre FC 0.
Western Railway 6 beat PIFA Colaba 0.
Mangalore Blues down Kanara Bros 2-1
Mumbai: Mangalore Blues SC scored a har-fought 2-1 win against Kanara Brothers SC in a league match of the 19th Late Ramanath Payyade Memorial Football Tournament, organised by KSA (Karnatak Sporting Association) and played at the KSA ground, Cross Maidan, Churchgate.
Strikers Aaron Machado and Akshay Devidiga were bang on target with a goal each to seal Mangalore Blues victory. Sunil Rathod got the lone goal for the losers.
In another match, Jai Bharat SC overcame Udaya SC by a narrow 1-0 margin in a closely contested encounter. Rashid Shaikh struck the all-important winning goal of the match.
In the third match, Star of Canara blanked Karnatak SC 2-0 with Melwyn Vaz and Sheldon Rego scoring a goal apiece.
