Thailand destroyed by former WWC champs Norway
Former World Champions Norway started their World Cup Campaign in style by humbling newcomers Thailand.
Thailand started the match well and almost got themselves an early goal but were unable to do anything once Norway gained more possession and started controlling the midfield. Norwegian players were faster as well as taller than their rivals which helped them completely outplay their rivals.
Trine Ronning took a brilliant free kick which beat the keeper to help Norway break the deadlock within 15 minutes. Isabell Herlovsen then scored a second for the European team with a smart finish. Isabell then scored a second goal with a header from close range beating Thai defenders and their keeper. Herlovsen almost completed her hat trick for Norway, but her goal was ruled offside by the officials.
Maren Mjelde also saw a penalty saved by Thailand's Waraporn Boonsing. Teenager Hegerberg tapped home Norway's fourth from Elise Thorsnes' run and low cross in the 68th minute. She also managed to hit the woodwork twice during the game.
The best Thailand chance came in the fifth minute when Kanjana Sung-Ngoen burst down the right flank and fired a pass across the face of goal. It was too quick for Silawan Intamee to touch into the open net for what could have been a moment of glory. The Thais also created some pressure early in the second half, but were not able to get their shots on target.
Group B also includes two-time champions Germany, who beat Ivory Coast 10-0 on Sunday.
