Valdes is the perfect replacement for David De Gea – Raimond van der Gouw
According to former Red Devils keeper Raimond van der Gouw, Manchester United already have the "perfect" replacement for David De Gea, should the 24 year-old goalkeeper leave for Real Madrid.
"With what he knows about football and the way he is playing, he is perfect for United. He can play for another three or four years in a top team. Van der Sar played and did a great job.” Said van der Gouw.
Raimond van der Gouw played for united between 1996-2002 believes Valdes has the ability to deal with the pressure that would come with job at a big club like Manchester United.
Victor Valdes who made his debut in the year 2002 has won 21 major titles during his 12 seasons at Barcelona which include 3 Champions League trophies, 2 Fifa Club World Cups and 6 league titles. Valdes has also made 20 appearances for Spain’s national side. The Goalkeeper made over 355 appearances during his spell at Barcelona. Valdes was an integral part of the most successful spell in Barcelona's history.
Compared to David De Gea who is only 24 years old, Valdes who is 33 is definitely much older. Edwin van der Sar moved to Old Trafford from Fulham he was 34-years-old, but was one of the best Keepers when he retired 6 years later. Brad Friedel who is 44 and Tim Howard who is 36 can be prime examples to argue about the fact that age may very well be just a number when it comes to Goalkeepers. The aforementioned players have been performing at optimum levels in one of the most challenging top-league in the world. Valdes having signed for United in January hadn’t made an appearance until Sunday when he made his debut against Arsenal. The match ended as a draw.
