The Bastian Situation
It's been a good second season at Bayern Munich for coach Pep Guardiola who managed to win the title second time in a row.
But the club did undergo some serious injury issues and contract troubles during the season. With club and national team vice captain putting his future through a midst of speculation.
With the new season just weeks away and the players in their last phase of holidays, coach Pep Guardiola has come out and addressed the media.
Schweinsteiger, 30, has been linked with a summer transfer to United although last month the midfielder suggested he plans to stay at Bayern.
"Bastian Schweinsteiger's future depends on him," Guardiola said at a news conference. "I still plan with him. I want him to stay.
"Bastian Schweinsteiger makes the decision. If he decides to stay I will be very happy to have his quality in my team."
Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer told kicker: "He is an important player but I principally rule out nothing during a transfer period."
The midfielder who is on holiday with his tennis star girlfriend, Anna Ivanovic only last week released a statement saying he'd like to continue playing for the club.
"I would like to win the Champions League again and play as successfully as we did in the last few years," he told Sport1.
"We have been champions for three consecutive years and I believe that no team has won the title four years in a row. That is a motivation."
Schweinsteiger a club icon for Bayern Munich and as a born and brought up city lad, is a fan favorite and spent all his footballing life playing for the club.
With speculations still rife, the club hope to clear the air as soon as possible and tie down the player to a new contract.
