Ten Payers who died while active in their careers

As a tribute in the memory of the cricketer Phil Hughes, We at TFM pay tribute to some of the warriors that we lost while they were active on the field

Tommy Blackstock –

The Scottish defender died of a cardiac arrest in 1907. He played for Manchester United when he died. His death was the driving force behind the formation of Football League players association.

2 John Thomson –

The legendary Celtic keeper was tipped to be the best goalkeeper of all time. His fearlessness was his biggest quality and he keeped in the days when keepers kept with their bare hands.

Hrvoje ?usti? –

The Croatian U21 international died tragically when he collided into rims in a league game involving HNK Cibalia in the Croatian first division on 29 March 2008. This was a brutal death at a tender age.

4 Cristiano Júnior –

Indian football’s superstar died a tragic death when Dempo faced Mohun Bagan. The then Bagan keeper Subrata Pal accidently punched Junior in chest while vying for a ball. But that punch turned out to be fatal as Junior died on the spot.

5 Jumadi Abdi –

The Indonesian footballer was victim of reckless play prevalent in football. He died due to what may seem like a simple high footed challenge, but that claimed his life.

6 David Paul –

The 18 year old Hibernian suffered a cardiac arrest after a game on the night of 23rd December. He was tipped to be a first team regular but sadly didn’t live long enough to see his potential get fulfilled.

7 Piermario Morosini –

The 25 year old Livorno man also died of a cardiac arrest. He suddenly collapsed in their Serie B clash against Pescara.

8 Daniel Jarque –

The RCD Espanyol player collapsed after he had a heart attack post a training session with the team.

9 Phil O'Donnell –

He collapsed during his side’s Scottish League clash with Dundee United where Motherwell won 5-3. He collapsed on the field as he died of a left ventricular failure.

10 Marc-Vivien Foé –

He collapsed while playing in the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup semi-final between Cameroon and Colombia, and died shortly afterwards in hospital. An autopsy later revealed the cause of death was hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The Cameroon international was one of the brightest sparks of Cameroon as he was entering into his prime years.
