Air India teams soar to big wins


Mumbai, March 31: Air India enjoyed an extremely successful day, with both their senior and junior teams recording convincing victories in the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, matches.

Defending champions Air India stormed to an emphatic 5-1 win against Maharashtra State Police in an Elite Division match, played at the Cooperage ground, on Tuesday morning. The airmen had to wait till the second half to open the scoring when Harold Fernandes hit the target in the 46th minute. They had to wait for a further 14 minutes to double the lead through Sagar Chile before Melvin Stevin and Vishnu T. struck a goal each in quick succession to give Air India a 4-0 cushion in the 68thminute. The policemen managed to reduce the deficit through Farhaz Shaikh’s strike in the 83rd minute. Air India signed off in style with T. Johnychand Singh firing home the fifth goal in the first minute of additional period.

Meanwhile, the Air India Under-19 side produced a solid combined performance and inspired by striker Jagdish Madada’s five strikes blanked Juhu Sparks 6-0 in a one-sided Super Division Play-off match, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel. Alan Dias netted the sixth goal to round of the winning tally for the Air India colts.


Result, Elite Division: Air India 5 (Harold Fernandes 46th,Sagar Chile 60th, Melvin Steven 67th, Vishnu T. 68th, T. Johnychand Singh 90+1st) beat Maharashtra State Police 1 (Farhaz Shaikh 83rd).


Super Div (play-off): Air India Under-19 6 (Jagdish Madada 5, Alan Dias) beat Juhu Sparks SC 0.


RCF Youth Council score big win


Mumbai, March 31: RCF Youth Council romped to a 4-0 win against Shanti Nagar FC in a Third Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Tuesday.

Later in a First Division play-off match, Chheda Nagar Prodigies and Mumbai Strikers shared honours playing out a goalless draw.


Results – Div-III:RCF Youth Council 4 (Judhiste Padhi 2, Sayuj Sunil, Melroy Pillan) beat Shanti Nagar FC 0.


Div-I play-off: Chheda Nagar Prodigies 0 drew with Mumbai Strikers 0.
