Atletico Madrid Vs. Barcelona Report

Barcelona defeat Atletico Madrid to clinch the title with one match yet to be played. Lionel Messi scored the only goal of the game in the 65thminute to ensure a 1 – 0 victory over Atletico Madrid. Barcelona won the game at Vicente Calderon, exactly a year after Atletico Madrid defeated Barcelona at Nou Camp to win the La Liga.

Messi, Suarez & Neymar have scored 79 goals amongst them in the La Liga so far. Lionel Messi scored his 54th goal in this 54th appearance this season. The trio has scored over a 100 goals in all matches this season. Luis Suarez however, did not feature in the match as he was sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

Pedro found Messi with an accurate pass while the latter took a magnificent touch to beat Oblak from inside the box. Messi’s goal came at a crucial time, particularly at a time when Madrid seemed to be dominating. Neymar got a chance to double the lead just minutes later, but blasted the ball off the mark.

Atletico dominated the beginning ten minutes of the game. Both clubs were very physical in every duel and were looking to get an early goal against each other. This ensured a very attacking game play which lead to an open and exciting match. Bravo did well to keep a y Jose Gimenez header out in the 8th minute. Griezmann was ruled offside when he did the same just minutes later. Messi did well to try and finish a brilliant attacking play but took his shot directly at the keeper who made an easy save.

Barcelona were denied a clear penalty when Juanfran’s arm got in the way of Lionel Messi’s header, the referee then wrongly booked Dani Alves for diving on the edge of the penalty box. Barcelona were awarded the Free kick despite the booking where Leo Messi was denied a goal by the crossbar. Oblak then denied Dani Alves who tried his luck with a brilliant shot from 30 yards out. Diego Godin got a clear chance but headed it over the mark. Atletico barely looked dangerous post Messi’s goal and the Catalans did well to contain Atletico.
