Arsenal slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Signal Iduna Park thanks to goals from Ciro Immobile and Pierre-Emrick Aubameyang . This was Arsenal's first defeat against Borussia Dortmund at the latter's home.
Team selections were unusual as both of the teams had a long injury list. 18 year old Hector Bellerin full back made his debut for Arsenal. While Immobile started over Ramos along with Schmelzer.
There was only one team who looked threatening and that was the home side as Arsenal were shoddy to say the least. Mikel Arteta was a big let down as the lone anchor in the midfield; Özil despite being uncomfortable was deployed on the wings. Danny Welbeck proved why Manchester United let him join their direct rivals on deadline day as he scuppered two glorious chances. For some it might just be two chances but when your side manages just one shot on target and 5 in total those two are almost 50% of team's goal scoring chances.
Dortmund on the other hand would be kicking themselves for just scoring two goals where in all probability they would've decimated Arsenal. They had 22 shots on target! Immobile scored a typical forward's goal as he powered past Laurent Koscielny and pumped in a low drive past Wojciech Szczesny just before halftime.
Aubameyang hit the post in the first half after scoring one himself in the second half thanks to some sloppy defending by the visitors in their own half. Such was the home side's dominance that their first goal came in their 15th shot of the match.
