Chelsea vs WestHam Match Report
Overview:
West Ham United took on traveling Capital One Cup Champions at Upton Park as the away side seeking all three points with the home side looking to rekindle their lost form.
Sam Allardyce and West Ham lined up in 4-3-2-1 Christmas tree formation with Sakho leading the line. Chelsea on the other hand who played Tottenham at Wembley at the weekend looked confident but lacked energy with Matic suspended Kurt Zouma again started in the midfield.
West Ham kicked of the game as the home team holding the ball in the opening minutes. But it was Chelsea who looked to have come out of the blocks, particularly Eden Hazard who seemed to have taken the onus.
But the first chance if the game fell to West Ham who had the corner. But soon Chelsea took the lead through a Eden Harzard headed goal after Ramires crossed it for the Belgian who headed it off.
With both sides looking for a goal, the game was a open affair. Game being end to end. West Ham United had couple of openings which put have them right in to the mix with most of the chances falling to Sakho. But it was Thibaut Courtios who stood tall and saved after having been dropped in the Capital One Cup finals.
But Chelsea had a clear cut chance in Diego Costa who was released by Fabregas as he was one on one with West Ham keeper Adrian but Jenkinson's inspiring tackle would deny a chance to take the lead.
The second half was the same, but this time the home side looked threatening as they tested the Chelsea keeper and defense repeatedly. With Sakho and Enner Valencia proving to be tough opponents.
On the other side even Chelsea carved out opportunity, after Ramires hit the post after a swift and inspiring stuff from Eden Hazard. The score in the end could have been 4-3 to either side but the game ended as 1-0.
