IMG-Reliance have confirmed that Chennai will replace Bengaluru as the eighth franchise of the ISL, with this announcement came in the speculation about the potential owners. Although there weren’t any official confirmation from the ISL authorities, major Indian media outlets understand that, the avid Chelsea fan and Bollywood star Mr.Abhishek Bachchan will be allotted to a consortium.
Anupam Dutta, the newly appointed CEO for ISL said:
"The eighth team in the ISL is Chennai. The owners will be announced at an appropriate time,"
"The bid is being reviewed by our committee. You will hear from us soon,"
was all that Dutta said when asked to reveal details of the ownership.
Partnering Abhishek will be 18-time Serie A winner Inter Milan and Playon Skills, a Bangalore based company involved in grass-root football development.
“Inter Milan and a senior figure from the Swedish national setup helped Team Chennai pick the right players from the international draft and the Italian team is expected to continue to provide technical support,” the source said.
“If things go according to plan an Inter Legends team might also play a friendly with the Chennai franchisee ahead of the ISL season.”
