With Janmaat replacing French defender Mathieu Debuchy who left Newcastle to join Arsenal for a price said to be around £5 million. He looks like a good addition to the Newcastle United squad.
We review Janmaat’s likely role in Alan Pardew’s revamped squad.
The 24-year-old Dutch full-back Janmaat featured in five of Netherlands’ six World Cup games having had a very good campaign. He also assisted in two goals, one against Chile during the group game and another against Brazil in the third-place match.
The defender is a valuable replacement in the right-back position as he has had a performance superior to that of Mathieu Debuchy whom he’s succeeding.
Newcastle manager had to let go of Debuchy whom he bought from Lille after just 18 months with 4 and a half years left in his contract. He now will hope that Janmaat is in for the long haul.
Janmaat’s traits are impressive as he can not only defend but can be crucial in attacking as he has done so on numerous occasions for his former club where he’s scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists in 147 appearances.
With his vision and pace he can outrun attackers and defend valiantly and at the same time can attack and come up with crucial match-winning passes, assists and goals.
