They found a perfect replacement in England under 21 captain Jordan Henderson, a 20M Pound buy from Sunderland. Henderson joined Liverpool as a 21 year old prodigy. He initially struggled to settle in, and was almost on his way out to Fulham until Brendan Rodgers took over from Kenney Dalglish and promised him to make a better player.
Brendan Rodgers felt happy and confident was quoted saying:
"Yes, Jordan is our new vice-captain," Rodgers said. "I have been here a couple of years now and been able to give the decision real thought.
"He's someone who represents a lot of what we are about - him and Stevie [Gerrard] are the moral compass of our group, how they conduct themselves on and off the field, how they train, how they work."
Brendan Rodgers was also quoted in theLiverpool Echo, saying:
“When he came in he maybe had a difficult season. My first summer here he had the opportunity to leave. We were talking about it the other day.
“I said to him ‘listen, you have the chance to go to Fulham. You can either go there and play every week or stay here. I can’t guarantee you games straightaway but I know one thing for sure, I will improve you as a player’.
“He wanted to stay and he felt that first period out of the team really helped him tactically as he could work more looking at videos and analysing his game. From there he has really grown in confidence.
“Now for both club and country he holds himself really well. He has great stature and I think he will be around here for many years.”
Looks like Liverpool are getting ready for the inevitable, the day Steven Gerrard decides hang up his boots, Jordan Henderson would be ready to take his and the clubs legacy forward.
